Starting situation
The population-based Study of Health in Pommerania (SHIP) covers the etiopathogenesis of various genetic disorders, family, social and lifestyle factors, nonspecific and specific subclinical changes and clinical manifestation. The variety of data gathered over the course of 12 years enables us to analyze the complex relationships between various risk factors and disease, define individual risk profiles, and thereby provide the basis for individualized diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
Due to high prevalence and poor prognosis, cardio-and cerebrovascular as well as endocrine-metabolic disorders are a major health-policy and economic problem.
Aims
For GANI_MED, several cohorts of patients with cardiovascular or cerebrovascular and endocrine-metabolic disorders will be recruited: a cardiac cohort (heart failure, PB2 1), cerebrovascular cohort (apoplexy, PB2 2), a cohort of nephrology (chronic kidney disease, PB2 3) and a cohort of comorbidity (metabolic syndrome, PB2 4). In addition, a cohort will be established of a not yet clearly identified disease (emerging disease, PB2 5). These previously defined patient cohorts will be compared with healthy subjects from SHIP.
There will be a comprehensive characterization of the risk profile, clinical phenotype, and proteome, transcriptome, and metabolome patterns of biomaterials and the genotype to develop evidence-based individual diagnostic strategies. On this basis, new, individualized diagnostic and therapeutic approaches should be also derived in the long term.
