Staphylococcus aureus is an infective pathogen associated with high morbidity and mortality. About 20% of the world`s population are permanent carriers of S. aureus. This is a risk factor for S. aureus infection. So far, only few data are available about the transmission of this organism between individuals. Some studies revealed breastfeeding as a possible mode of transmission of S. aureus between mother and her newborn. This proposal submitted by African and German groups thus focuses on the colonization by S. aureus in infancy.
