This 49-year-old female presented with headaches, sensory disturbances in the region of the lips and intermittent dysphagia. MR imaging revealed a large petroclival meningioma with considerable brainstem compression.
Postoperatively, the patient suffered partial oculomotor palsy, slight facial nerve weakness (House and Brackman grade II), and a complete bilateral abducens palsy. The facial palsy and the oculomotor palsy had completely disappeared within 2 weeks. The abducens palsy endured almost four months.
The postoperative MR images taken one year after surgery revealed the complete removal of the tumor with no signs of residual tumor or tumor recurrence. The patient does not display neurological deficits.
