Research at the institute focuses mainly on factors that increase life expectancy among the general population. The institute puts special emphasis on interventions towards a healthy life style: free from tobacco smoke, free from alcohol risk drinking, a healthy diet and appropriate exercise. The staff of the currently running research is multidisciplinary. The publications add evidence to the prevention of common diseases and their etiology. A focus of the courses taught is on behavior change at the population level.
