Non-invasive neurophysiological procedures such as transcranial magnetic stimulation are increasingly being used in the diagnosis and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. The influence of subject-specific or methodological variables on the data is known, but has hardly been systematically investigated to date.
In Greifswald, we are investigating TMS in an epidemiological study (Study of Health in Pomerania SHIP), called SHIP TMS, to focus on the interaction of specific variables on motor excitability, but also to develop quality assurance approaches for the use of TMS as a method in future, broader research.
