Work package #7: Pharmacology of Membrane Transporter (Center of Drug Absorption and Transport, Department of Pharmacology)

Transport of drugs as well as endogenous compounds across biological membranes is a major focus of the research in the department of pharmacology of Ernst Moritz Arndt University in Greifswald, German, for many years and will be the major objective in the recently founded interdisciplinary "Center of Drug Absorption and Transport (C_DAT)", which is supported by the German Government. A special focus of our research is the transport of compounds in pharmacological microcompartiments as the heart or blood cells (e.g., platelets). Expression of transport proteins in heart, for example, could alter the intracellular concentrations of both cardiotoxic agents as well as cardiovascular drugs.
