For GANI_MED's comprehensive approach, the currently available infrastructure in terms of biomedical informatics and coordination is insufficient. The same applies to the Biobank in its present scope. Current programs to promote young academics (e.g., the Domagk program of the Faculty of Medicine) cover a broad spectrum of disciplines; a focus does not exist yet.
The structure group leads to an increase in capacity and competence of the Biobank, bioinformatics, and medical informatics, and the establishment of a professional, scientific organizational structure for the concerns of individualized medicine. It creates the conditions for the successful development of the project groups and for the utilization of patients data and biomaterials for research purposes. At the same time, a program promoting and training young academics initiates specific qualification measures. Another project deals with concepts and structures to ensure the formation of sustainable research alliances, allowing for additional, future partners.
