GANI_MED generates not only new ethical, but also cultural, legal and economic issues. This project group makes a fundamental contribution to dealing with those issues arising from individualized medicine in the phases of its constitution, design, and future establishment. Thanks to the expertise of the scientists involved (economics, history of medicine, philosophy, theology), the full range of methods from the Humanities, economics and social sciences can be used: hermeneutics, discourse analysis, concept explication, medical analysis, disease cost analysis, health technology assessment, and cultural and media theory.
The concept of individualised medicine is examined for medical-theoretical requirements and its implied conceptualizations of health/disease, and for new ethical risks and impact on health economics.
The consequences of new understanding of disease for individual prevention, treatment and social consensus will be examined.
