Individualized Medicine is an important goal to maximize benefits and minimize harm in the provision of health care. Using state-of-the-art diagnostics and novel therapeutic interventions that take into account the specific characteristics of an individual patient or a well-defined patient group, Individualized Medicine aims to increase the efficiency of treatment strategies, avoid adverse reactions, and to reduce health care expenditures. The GANI_MED (Greifswald Approach to Individualized Medicine) research project is the first attempt to establish an Individualized Medicine program at a university hospital.
