Shruthi Peringathara is a PhD researcher of the Research Training Group (RTG-PRO) at the University of Medicine Greifswald. RTG-PRO aims to gain unprecedented insights into proteases’ role in infection and inflammation. Shruthi is passionate about host-pathogen interaction studies and the role of bacterial effectors. Her research under Dr. Silva Holtfreter focuses on characterising the role of Jep, a novel serine protease common to murine Staphylococcus aureus isolates- defining its role in mouse colonisation.

Before arriving at Greifswald, Shruthi graduated with a Master of Research (MRes) in Translational Medicine from Queens University, United Kingdom. Her master’s thesis under the guidance of Dr. Gunnar Neels Schroeder examined the role of bacterial nucleomodulin in the respiratory pathogen Legionella pneumophila. She also holds a Master’s degree in Biotechnology from Bangalore University, India.

Apart from academia, she acquired professional experience in Molecular Diagnostics, teaching, and worked as a technical editor for Macmillan Publishing Solutions.
